Sperm whales have the largest brain of any creature known to have lived on earth and also have a large nose with what’s known as a spermaceti organ. Yahoo News — Sperm whales can take over an hour to decide on whether to turn right
The earliest known spermatophyte pollen organs are Late Devonian (Famennian) Elkinsia polymorpha8, Telangium schweitzeri9, Telangiopsis sp.10 and Cosmosperma polyloba12, which have been found in association with ovules. They have been described with synangium comprising up to eight microsporangia fused only at the base. Kongshania synangioides has synangium consisting of six basally fused microsporangia11. The microsporangia of these Famennian synangia are 1.6-8.0 mm long and 0.14-1.80 mm wide, comparatively larger than those of Placotheca. If this rate of invasion continues, the researchers calculate that between 500 and 800 spermatophyte plants will become weeds on islands lying at latitudes between 35 degrees North and 35 degrees South. BBC - Earth News - Invasion of the 'island snatchers'

Spinifex plays an important role in dune building. As the wind blows the sand from a process called saltation, the spinifex captures the sand and helps the dune to form. Other ground covers such as beach bean help continue the stabilisation process. Their deep root systems also assist in stabilising the dunes and help the plants survive. Spinifex: stabilisation and dune builder
The "ancient fish kingdom" of Qujing in southwest China's Yunnan Province was ocean from Silurian to Devonian. During excavations of fossils in the early Devonian strata, the research team collected the first fossil material of broad-shelled turtle with intact gill-filaments marks. It provides the most accurate anatomical and fossil evidence for the theory that the spiracle of vertebrates such as fish originates from degenerated gills. nationthailand — Chinese fossils show human middle ear evolved from fish gills
The dynamic behavior of the lobes was observed during floating process (defined in Methods). The lobes touched the water surface with slightly widened state and continued to widen with time. The spiracle also widened as the lobes spread (Fig. 4a). The spiracle was observed as a narrow slit at t = 26 ms. However, its orifice distinctly opened at 104 ms. "These fossils provided the first anatomical and fossil evidence for a vertebrate spiracle originating from fish gills," said Gai. Chinese fossils show human middle ear evolved from fish gills
But where the spiracle came from has puzzled academics for over a century. Chinese scientists have eventually found clues to the mystery in fossils unearthed in the provinces of Zhejiang and Yunnan, which provided anatomical and fossil evidence for the origin of vertebrate spiracles from gills. Under our regular microscopic observation of the excised disks in culture through sporulation and spore with four flagella release, the formation of sporangia did not occur before 48 h (Fig. 1A–D), but sporulation and spore release occurred by 60 h (Fig. 1E,F). Therefore, the formation of sporangium must have occurred from 48 to 60 h. Recently, we have investigated the effect of increasing levels of the soy GOS, stachyose and raffinose, on the ceca microbial composition of broilers at 21 days of age as a potential indicator of “gut health” (Brown et al., 2022). Broilers were fed 1 of 5 experimental diets. A basal diet based on soy protein isolate (SPI) to be devoid of soy GOS, or the SPI diet with the addition of 0.9, 1.8, 2.7, or 3.6% total GOS as a mixture of stachyose and raffinose at a ratio of 4:1, similar to SBM. Inclusion rates used were to be consistent with typical GOS ranges observed in commercial broiler diets with variable SBM quality. Is soybean meal bad for broiler gut health? | The Poultry Site
We have previously described how the content of ANFs in SBM such as trypsin inhibitors, the indigestible oligosaccharides stachyose and raffinose and the antigen β-conglycinin negatively impact broiler performance (Blanch, 2020ab). Furthermore, the high degree of variability in nutrient composition of SBM makes accurate diet formulation a challenging task as table values do not necessarily represent the raw material used for a specific feed, which may also affect broiler performance (Brown, 2021). Enzyme-treated soy protein in broiler starter feed goes beyond improving dietary protein digestibility | The Poultry Site
In the last two years, Hamlet Protein has developed scientific studies aimed at determining the maximum levels of soybean meal (SBM) antinutritional factors (ANFs) that should be in broiler starter diets, leading to interesting findings, published in "The Poultry Site" in various articles. The most relevant SBM ANFs in poultry farming are trypsin inhibitor activity (TIA), the indigestible oligosaccharides stachyose and raffinose and the antigen beta-conglycinin. Removing a single anti-nutritional factor from soybean meal in poultry starter diets is not enough to ensure proper growth and gut health | The Poultry Site
